This is not a problem
Mar 04, 2024Warning. This may be triggering for some.
What if we told you that most of your problems are not really problems?
I was sitting in traffic yesterday morning in our little ski town. It was ski traffic on a powder day but I wasn’t going skiing. I was just driving home from dropping my daughter off at school.
It wasn’t a problem. It was just cars on the same road I was on. And really, I was part of the traffic.
That same day my son was home from school with the flu. Sure, it wasn’t fun but he’s slowly starting to feel better. Him being home from school wasn’t a problem either.
And because he stayed home from school, I didn’t get as much work done as I had planned. It wasn’t a problem. I eventually got done what I needed to.
If I’m being honest, I’m tired of Winter. I don’t want it to snow anymore and be cold, but it is. I have an arsenal of cute jackets and boots and I know how to dress for the weather. I don’t make the weather a problem.
Most things that happen in life are not problems. And listen, I’m not trying to lollypop life. There are terrible things going on in the world. Absolutely. There ARE actual problems.
It’s just that not everything we think is a problem is actually a problem.
Our brains love to complain. It’s part of the human experience. We complain, we blame, we commiserate with others about things that suck. We MAKE things problems.
This isn’t a useful way to be, and it’s certainly not a fun or productive way to be. When we let our brain take us down the path of complaining and looking for all the things going wrong - remember, our brain looks for what may go wrong to keep us safe - complaining and blaming keep us stuck.
When we know how to manage our mind, we have less problems.
The truth: we can find things to complain about all day every day.
When you make the decision to be intentional about looking for what’s going right instead of what’s going wrong, we promise you’ll feel so much better. And when you feel better, you do better. You are better, rockstar.
Here’s our challenge to you.
- Notice when you find yourself complaining and blaming. Notice when you think things are problems.
- And then check in. Is this actually a problem and why?
- What is going right? Can you make the best of it? Can you get curious about it?
- Say this to yourself: this is not a problem.
What we want to offer is that when you focus on you and what you can control, you realize that there are less problems than you may think. You can do this. We can help you get there.
