We don't eat breakfast
Mar 07, 2022I realized a long time ago that I don’t feel well when I eat early in the morning.
My stomach gets upset, or I feel like I’m going to toss it during my workout.
My physician husband would warn that all his patients who don’t eat breakfast have lifestyle diseases like diabetes.
And the Wheaties box growing up cheered it was the Breakfast of Champions.
It’s the most important meal of the day, right?
Maybe for you it’s carbs. Someone told you once that they’re bad for you so you avoid them now (even though you occasionally love a carby pasta dinner!).
Or maybe you’re making parenting decisions based on a book you read - even though it doesn’t feel quite right.
Or you’re saying yes to a colleague’s asks even though your plate is beyond full (and it’s a buffet-sized plate).
It can feel REALLY uncomfortable to break the rules we’ve practiced for so long.
Rules like Other people know more about your body than you do and You’re not a good enough mom and It’s important to be polite.
We’re taught our worthiness is tied up in how productive we are, how helpful we are, how pretty we are, how “good” we are.
And that there’s a right or wrong way to do pretty much everything.
So OF COURSE we look to the advice of friends, the media, strangers, google - because we’ve been conditioned to see everyone BUT ourselves as the expert.
Hey, how about we give ourselves permission to do what we want?!
Tell yourself, “I give myself permission to _________________.”
I gave myself permission to eat breakfast when I want to and skip it when I don't. And many other things since then. Many.
Next time you find yourself judging or doubting yourself, check in on the why there. Question it. And if you want, try giving yourself permission instead.
Start small - it will feel hard. And then it will feel kickass. We promise.
